The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) has today marked International Customs Day through a dedicated ceremony held at the International Conference Centre of Seychelles which saw the participation of the SRC board members, executive management and staff members across the customs division.
The theme chosen by the World Customs Organization (WCO), the institution that plays a crucial role in developing international customs standards to facilitate global trade for 2026 is “Customs Protecting Society through Vigilance and Commitment
Elaborating on the theme when delivering the principal address, emphasizing on Customs’ ongoing efforts to combat illicit trade, and protecting the community from prohibited products, the SRC’s Commissioner General Mrs. Varsha Singh said, “Customs protects Seychelles by safeguarding our blue economy, stopping dangerous drugs, and ensuring imported goods meets safety and intellectual property standards.
“In doing so, Customs safeguards not only public health and consumer trust, but also the integrity of our markets and the competitiveness of legitimate businesses.”
For demonstrating strong commitment and dedication in their role, the event also saw twenty Customs officers awarded the WCO Certificate of Merit. The awards acknowledges the significant contributions the officers have and continues to make towards the improvement of customs operations and practices.
In giving back to the community as part of SRC’s corporate social responsibility efforts, the Customs Division also extended a special donation to Foyer De Nazareth during the event.
In closing, the Commissioner of Customs, Mr. Paul Barrack commended all Customs officers for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication. He expressed, “In an increasingly complex global environment, your vigilance at our borders and your commitment to service, continue to protect society, support national development, and uphold the rule of law.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all officers for reflecting the highest traditions of the customs service and setting the standard to which we can all aspire. Let this occasion renew our collective sense of purpose, reaffirm our commitment to integrity and vigilance, and inspire us to continue serving with distinction in the protection of society.”
