SEYCHELLES REVENUE COMMISSION AND UNIVERSITY OF SEYCHELLES SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) and the University of Seychelles have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance collaboration and cooperation.

The agreement sealed during an event held at the SRC Head Office in Maison Collet marks a significant step forward in strengthening the ongoing engagement build between the two institutions, with a shared focus on advancing education, capacity building, knowledge exchange and human resources in areas of taxation and customs.

The MOU signed by SRC’s Commissioner General, Mrs. Varsha Singh was witnessed by the Commission’s Director General for Support Services, Mrs. Christelle Betsy whilst the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Ms. Joëlle Pereau followed suit in the presence of the University Registrar, Mrs. Betty-Mai Sofa.

Emphasizing on the importance of the MoU, Mrs. Varsha Singh said: “At the SRC, our mission extends beyond just collection of revenue. We are committed to fostering a culture of tax compliance and economic literacy. To achieve this, we need a workforce and a citizenry that are well versed in the complexities of modern finance and law.

“By collaborating with the University of Seychelles, we are identifying and nurturing the NextGen leaders who will drive our transition towards a more automated, data-driven environment.”

Ms. Joëlle Pereau also highlighted: “At the heart of this MoU lies a clear and impactful purpose. First, it creates valuable internship opportunities for our students in key fields such Computing and information System, Law and Human Resources.

“These are not just areas of academic study, they are strategic sectors that underpin effective governance, digital transformation, and organizational excellence”.

The MoU will establish a framework for collaboration in academic exchange through capacity building, such as training and development, further learning program for staff of SRC and the public to promote compliance enhance tax and customs literacy in Seychelles.

Students of the university aiming for career development in legal affairs, human resources, project management as well as information and technology as part of the MoU will be exposed to SRC’s internship programmes with the opportunity of being employed with the commission ensuring the MoU delivers tangible results.
