The Customs community has once again this year come together, united in celebrating International Customs Day, which officially falls on 26 January of each year.
This special day commemorated by World Customs Organization (WCO) under the theme “Customs delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity” celebrates the value and virtue of Customs Officers, agencies and stakeholders committed towards the advancement of trade facilitation, border protection, security, and sustainable economic growth.
Over 70 Customs Officers gathered at the STC Conference room to mark this exceptional occasion in the presence of the Minister of the Minister of Finance, National Planning and Trade, Mr. Naadir Hassan, members of the SRC governing board, the executive management of the SRC, customs officials and invited guests.
Part of the ceremony saw a total of 20 staff members bestowed with the WCO certificate of merit for going above and beyond in their duties, including a special recognition of long serving staff members for attaining a remarkable 15 to 45 years of work experience within SRC and the public sector.
The event which took place at the STC Conference room also saw the management and staff members of the SRC express their appreciation and gratitude to the Minister of Finance, National Planning and Trade, Mr. Naadir Hassan currently spending his last week in office, for his support to SRC.
The event was also dedicated to the late Mr. Kurtis Marimba ax ex. colleague of the customs division in remembrance of his efforts and contributions to the customs division.
