SRC EXTENDS PARTNERSHIP WITH ATAF TO INCREASE EFFICIENCIES AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT IN TAX

The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) have today extended its partnership with the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) following the signing of an agreement aimed at increasing efficiencies in the Seychelles tax system.

The agreement signed between the SRC’s Commissioner General, Mrs. Varsha Singh and the ATAF’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Logan Wort also outlines the country specific support that ATAF will be providing to the Commission, to further elevate the Seychelles tax system and its policies, enabling effective domestic resource mobilization and sustainable development.

The areas of focus the partnership will look at will include digitalization, exchange of information, revenue forecasting, service delivery and international taxation, amongst others. This will be achieved through capacity building initiatives, technical assistance opportunities and exchange of best practices.

The signing ceremony held during the ATAF 2024 Annual Meetings currently taking place in Rwanda, Kigali until 6 December 2024, also saw the Commissioner General, Mrs. Varsha Singh, featured as a panelist member at the exchange of information forum hosted under the theme “African Agenda on Exchange of Information and Transparency”. The Commissioner General during the session, echoed the importance of cooperation amongst jurisdictions especially between African countries when tackling financial crimes and illicit financial flows.

Marking ATAF’s 15th year of existence, the year’s Annual Meeting is being held under the theme “Preparing for the future: Revenue Administration in a Dynamic Global Landscape”. The platform being one of the most significant event hosted by ATAF yearly is delivered through workshops, presentations, and discussions aimed at fortifying shape tax policy on the African continent in addition to providing valuable insights into best practices, innovations, and challenges in tax administration.

The SRC is also being represented at the ATAF Annual Meeting by its Director for Taxpayers Educational and Service Delivery, also the Seychelles Country Correspondent for ATAF, Ms. Sheryl Barra.

Seychelles became a member of ATAF in January 2013. The international organization established in 2009 strives to build efficient tax administrations in African by  improving tax systems through exchanges, knowledge dissemination, capacity development and active contribution to the regional and global tax agenda.

 

To date, ATAF has a total of 44 member countries including Seychelles.
