The Seychelles Revenue Commission has since last week donated a variety of long shelf life items to the inhabitants of the English River elderly home as part of the organizations’ corporate social responsibility program aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of the community, by giving back to where it matters.
The donation held on Monday, 25 September 2023, follows the initiative conducted by employees of the Commission to mark the International Day of Charity celebrated yearly internationally on 5 September, providing a platform for individuals and volunteers at local, national and international level around the world to engage in charitable activities.
Conducted in the presence of the Director General for Support Services of SRC, the small event also saw the participation of the District Administrator (DA) of the region, the Head of the Elderly Home, SRC staff members from both tax and customs division as well as the residents of the home.
Speaking at the event during the handing over ceremony, the Director General for Support Services of SRC, Ms. Christelle Betsy said: “The English River elderly home is located within the vicinity where SRC operates, therefore it is only fitting that we extend our generosity to the residents of the home.
“As an entity responsible for the country’s revenue collection, we also from time-to-time extend our support to the general community. Hence, it is with great pleasure on behalf of all the employees at SRC that I share these goods with the residents of the home, a contribution which came from the heart of the SRC employees who conducted a ‘food drive’ on international charity day marked on 5 September, of which I am extremely proud of their remarkable gesture, in making this project successful.”
Accepting the donation, on her part the DA, Ms. Jency Volcere mentioned: “I am extremely happy for this kind gesture from SRC. Throughout the year we have knocked on several doors for support to the English River elderly home, however not all were successful. SRC voluntarily approached us with their donation last month of which we welcome wholeheartedly. I can see plenty of healthy options amongst the goods received of which I am sure it will definitely be enjoyed by the residents”.
The Head of Elderly Home Ms. Julina Havelock also added that such positive contributions does make a difference in the lives of the residents of the elderly home, as it helps them to know that the society at large is thinking about them and their well-being. She also called upon SRC to continue in maintaining the relationship established with the home.
Throughout a tour conducted at the facility, the residents of the home also expressed their gratitude to SRC for the aid provided and for recognizing the valuable contribution they have also made to society during their years of working.
The English River Home of the Elderly opened on 1 October, 2001 currently housed 14 residents.
